Canopy Tower

An unparalleled experience of the visual splendour of the Amazon. As you survey the verdant jungle canopy, keep an eye out for the noisy yet evasive white-throated toucan, red howler monkeys and sloths snoozing in the treetops. A close encounter with colourful macaws, toucans, honeycreepers and tanagers awaits. The Tower is undoubtedly one of the trip’s highlights.

The 36-metre observation tower is built around a giant kapok tree, the tabular roots of which extend into the forest floor to a length equal to that of the tree itself, providing stability against strong winds. It would take more than 40 people with their arms spread to cover the surface around the tabular roots.

Maito

Maito is an Amazonian tamale, and is the traditional way of preparing food on the stove. Guests are invited to prepare their own meal with the assistance of the local women, who will provide guidance on the process. The meal is prepared using leaves from a plant called rumi panga (stone leaves), along with various ingredients such as fish, chicken, white cocoa and palm hearts. This selection of ingredients is designed to satisfy the dietary requirements of all guests, including vegetarians and vegans. The addition of a leaf with its sap provides a unique and natural spice that enhances the flavour of this typical lunch.

Nature Walks

Our trail system, spanning over 20 km ( 13 miles ), positions us as the lodge with the most extensive hiking terrain, offering diverse ecosystem access.

The trails are located in terra firme forest, in the vicinity of lagoons, streams and rivers. The area is home to ancient trees, including giant kapok trees, which reach a height of 50 metres (165 ft). The trails have a slight incline and are suitable for walking. The duration of the walk can be adapted to accommodate children and seniors. As part of the 5-day/4-night programme, we have a 6-kilometre trail (4 miles) that has been designed with hiking enthusiasts in mind.

Blowgun

The ancestral hunting techniques of the Amazonian Kichwa people present a genuine challenge. The essential equipment for this learning process includes a blowgun, darts, and cotton, with the assistance of a local guide. The objective is to learn how to obtain food in the forest, with the target this time being a bird made of balsa wood.

Canoe Rides

The lagoon and its associated streams provide a variety of opportunities for wildlife observation, including birds, monkeys, caimans, and endangered species such as anacondas and giant river otters.

Canoe rides are a popular activity among our guests, offering the opportunity to observe wildlife in comfort. Guests can also enjoy the lagoon in the morning, where large groups of parrots can be seen heading to the feeders. The location is also ideal for witnessing one of the most spectacular sunsets in the entire Amazon region.

Chocolate

Preparing chocolate: from the field to the fork
Experience the exceptional and unique flavour of Amazonian chocolate. The process of making chocolate is imbued with a unique significance that far surpasses the mere act of grinding roasted beans. The product has a provenance that is worthy of note, given that it is the result of the sustainable way of life pioneered by several indigenous Amazonian Kichwa families. Prepare your own local chocolate, wrapped like a maito, with the assistance of the women of Sani Warmi. Indulge in chocolate that is as distinctive and delicious as the communities and farms from which it originates.

Sport Fishing

The aquatic ecosystem is home to a variety of species suitable for sport fishing, including catfish, smallmouth bass and, of course, piranhas that are endemic to the Amazon ecosystem.

The region is home to approximately 460 species of fish, among which the Paiche is one of the most notable, with a size of approximately 2 meters. In certain areas, the species has become practically extinct due to overhunting for its meat and the demand for its giant scales for jewellery. The electric eel, a fish that kills its prey by electric shock, is one of the species to be found in the Sani Lagoon.

Clay Licks

Salt licks are a popular site for naturalists and birdwatchers, offering the opportunity to observe large numbers of parrots, parakeets and parrots ingesting clay that contains essential minerals.

The birds fly approximately 55 km ( 35 miles) to reach the location where sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and clay are present. The consumption of green fruits that could cause stomach upset is counteracted by the action of the clay, which works as an antacid. It is important to note that salt licks are not immune to predation. It has been documented that boa constrictors, which are predators of parrots, have been known to use salt licks in trees as a hunting ground.

Spiritual Cleansing

A unique blend of adventure and insight into the shamanic practices of the Amazonian culture.

The ceremony begins when the shaman shares a locally-made cigar and request the guest to pass around the body to impregnate the energy that will allow him to read the vibes once lit. The shaman will blow the smoke around the all body to proceed with the diagnose of how the energy balance is. Available only in the 5 day/4 night trip.
